Position Title: Executive Director
Classification: Full-Time Exempt including evenings and weekends
Reports to: Milanof-Schock Library Board of Trustees
If you’ve dreamed of directing a quintessential, vibrant, small town library that enjoys strong community support, a robust collection, active programming, and a modern building, then we might have a job for you.
Milanof-Schock Library in Mount Joy, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania serves a population of over 25,000, half of whom have library cards, in several adjacent townships and boroughs. Our catalog continues to grow, currently at over 45,000 items. Our highly-engaged Friends of the Library volunteers (nearly 100) provide priceless volunteer hours and generate funds through book and bake sales.
As our current director is moving into retirement, our library is seeking a director who is energetic, passionate, positive, and organized. You’ll be expected to professionally network with our engaged community leaders and patrons in order to share our mission and promote our programs and services, and raise funds. Our new director will be open to various opinions and perspectives, and cultivate our 8 staff members, several of whom are highly experienced, to generate new ideas, grow professionally, enable them to lead new projects, and enjoy their jobs to the fullest in order to remain valuable community resources.
We are more than a building of books. We provide passport services, photocopies, internet access, meeting space, and other solutions that provide much needed access to services by our rural/suburban population. We enjoy high engagement in our youth and adult programs. We take pride in our building being the “Community’s Living Room.”
Your days will never be slow. In addition to being responsible for the day-to-day operations, you will implement the strategic plan and policies set by the Board of Trustees, advise them and seek their counsel in areas such as your role as a member of the Library System of Lancaster County, building and grounds maintenance, employee issues, annual budget, annual audits by the Office of Commonwealth Libraries, grant-funding opportunities, and solicitation of local municipalities and individuals. You will be most successful by cultivating relationships through attendance at meetings of our various boroughs and townships and civic organizations.
You will work with staff on future programming, purchase or retire items for or from our collection, research new technologies and creative methods to enable the library to be more effective in its mission, and stay informed about new trends that provide us with focus on what’s most important: serving our patrons.
