1,000 Books Before Kindergarten – Early Literacy

This early-literacy program is a family reading project for babies, toddlers, and preschoolers, and it’s a great way to help families prepare their preschoolers for later reading success. A family reading project means that the whole family can be involved; older siblings can read to younger siblings, grandparents can read to grandchildren,  even babysitters and friends can help! It all counts toward the goal of 1,000 books read to a child before kindergarten.

Experts believe that children need to have 1,000 books read to them before they start kindergarten. If you read 3 books to your child every day of one year, you will have read 1,095 books at the end of that year. Reading 10 books a week for 2 years will have 1,040 books completed!

Don’t feel discouraged…it’s much easier than you think!  We have information at the front desk to help you get started.
