Milanof-Schock Library is celebrating Dr. Seuss’s birthday a little differently this year. Instead of a Green Eggs and Ham breakfast, the Library is excited to be offering the family-friendly event on Friday, March 5 from 5-7:30 – “Celebrate Seuss – a Library Adventure!” Tickets for the fundraising event are just $5/person and will include a pass through the maze, hands-free games, activities, prizes, a goodie bag for each child, and a treat for adults as well! Each person will also receive a raffle ticket for a chance to win a Gus’s Family Restaurant gift card. Meet the characters: The Grinch, Thing 1 & Thing 2, Horton, Gertrude McFuzz, The Fox, and of course the Cat in the Hat! Kids (and parents, too) are invited to wear costumes to celebrate their favorite characters; masks will be required to participate. Tickets go on sale February 8 and need to be purchased in advance.

Library Receives Grant
Milanof-Schock Library in Mount Joy recently added a large selection of adult and children’s books to its public collection. Funding has been provided by the Pennsylvania Humanities Council and the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) as part of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act of 2020. Books purchased with the provided funds cover a variety of genres and topics in both fiction and nonfiction.
As part of the national Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES Act), which became law on March 27, 2020, the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) received $75 million to distribute to humanities-based nonprofits that have been financially impacted by the coronavirus. The Pennsylvania Humanities Council (PHC) received a portion of these emergency relief funds to grant to the statewide public humanities community. Called PHC CARES, this fund will help sustain Pennsylvania’s cultural infrastructure by supporting humanities organizations during this unprecedented time.

Who Can Register Online:
Residents of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.
Patrons 14 and older
Everyone else should contact their local library to find out how to get a library card.
Temporary Library Card:
After you complete the form found at the link above, you will receive a temporary library card number that you can use to sign in to many of our libraries’ online resources.
Your temporary library card is valid for 3 months. You must visit or contact us to upgrade your temporary library card to a full access library card. Otherwise your temporary library card will expire. You will need to complete a full paper application in the library and produce proof of address to upgrade your card.
Your temporary library card can be used to:
-Borrow eBooks and eAudiobooks
-Place holds on physical library items
-To pickup your held items, you must visit or contact us to upgrade your temporary library card to a full access library card.
-Use Online Resources
Your temporary library card cannot be used to:
-Borrow physical library items
-Use public access computers in the libraries
Please contact us to upgrade your limited access library card to a full access library card.

Winter Reading Game for All Ages
Winter in Pennsylvania is the perfect time to get cozy with a good book. For Library Lovers who are going to do that anyway, why not read for a little reward? Now through February 15, pick up a special “Cozy Up and Read” bingo card while visiting the Library, play the game according to directions provided at the circulation desk, and return the completed card for a small prize. There are different game cards for different age groups, including adults! The game can be played multiple times, and all completed cards will be entered in a grand prize drawing. Happy reading!

Adult Clubs Return in January!
Our Adult Clubs will return to the Library this month – Hooray! Knitting, cross-stitching, art, and book discussions, including a brand new Book Group called the Northwest Book Club, formerly the Elizabethtown Book Club, who lost their meeting space and has reassembled in-person at our Library!

Art Walk at the Library
We are so happy to be hosting a 3rd Annual Youth Art Walk at the Library on Saturday, January 23. Drop by the Library between 10am and 3pm to enjoy the talented student artists of Donegal’s High and Junior High schools. Since the school buildings have been closed to public events for the last 10 months, these creative students have not been able to showcase their work to the community. Please stop by to support the work of these students. They will not be here in person this year, but you can comment on their work and take a few moments to enjoy the work of the Donegal students.
