New Director Takes The Reins At Milanof-Schock Library – TownLively
Milanof-Schock Library in Mount Joy recently added a large selection of adult and children’s books to its public collection. Funding has been provided by the Pennsylvania Humanities Council and the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) as part of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act of 2020. Books purchased with the provided funds cover a variety of genres and topics in both fiction and nonfiction.
As part of the national Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES Act), which became law on March 27, 2020, the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) received $75 million to distribute to humanities-based nonprofits that have been financially impacted by the coronavirus. The Pennsylvania Humanities Council (PHC) received a portion of these emergency relief funds to grant to the statewide public humanities community. Called PHC CARES, this fund will help sustain Pennsylvania’s cultural infrastructure by supporting humanities organizations during this unprecedented time.
The Pennsylvania Humanities Council (PHC) is an independent nonprofit partner of the National
Endowment for the Humanities and part of a network of 56 state humanities councils that spans the nation and U.S. jurisdictions. We put the humanities in action to create positive change in our lives and communities. They believe the humanities inspire people to grow their potential and shape an equitable society. Their work is grounded in people and champions their creativity and big ideas, and they bring Pennsylvanians together to shape the future through the power of stories, reflection, and relationships. In December, Northwest Bank’s Carl Hackman presented the Library with a check for $1000.
Northwest was a matching donor for the Extra Give. We are grateful for their continuing support!
We have opened a new virtual store at the Library called Reading Treasures.
During the September Friends’ Meeting, a check for $15,000 was presented to the Library for funds earned at this year’s Used Book Sale. (Pictured right to left: Donna Little and Friends’ Treasurer Marilyn Barnett)
