Annual Appeal 2024

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

On September 17, 1964, Lancaster County recognized the organization of Mount Joy Library Center. The Articles of Incorporation hang in my office. Begun as a Girl Scout project to organize a regular bookmobile stop, the demand was so great that the library quickly moved to a converted house on Main Street. Sixty years later, your friendly neighborhood library, renamed Milanof-Schock Library and located on Anderson Ferry Road, still proudly serves our community.

Your library has grown because of community support!

This wonderful building was the result of a capital campaign led by significant donations from Anne Milanof and Clarence Schock. The campaign was so successful that the library has no mortgage. The library has no debt or bank loans which means every dollar goes directly to library service. This year, library staff is making changes to be even more fiscally responsible. For example, if you choose to donate, I am asking if you require a mailed receipt or if an email will suit your needs.

Your support has a HUGE impact.

Your ongoing support allows for MSL to purchase the books, DVDs, and other materials that you expect, as well as keep the lights on, keep the heat/AC on, keep the lawn mowed, keep the library clean, keep snow off the parking lot…I could go on and on. You make this library possible.

Some of the many ways your 2023 donations were put to great use!

Children’s programming… like our homeschool classes and weekly storytimes.

Upgraded shelves… in the juvenile nonfiction area.

Upgraded LED lighting… in the community room means lower electricity bills.
